In a powerful interview with Russia’s RT, former Chief of General Staff of the Pakistan Army, Lt. Gen. (R) Muhammad Saeed, revealed that the battle of Bunyān Mursūs exposed the harsh truth — peace in South Asia cannot be achieved without solving the Kashmir issue.

He said the Pakistan Armed Forces responded strongly and effectively to Indian aggression, forcing India to agree to a ceasefire. According to him, the military response was not just defensive but also a clear message that Pakistan would not tolerate unprovoked attacks.

Lt. Gen. (R) Saeed described the ceasefire as a bold and difficult decision, taken under intense global pressure by both sides. “It was a short but widespread conflict,” he explained. “There was heavy shelling and missile fire across 3,000 kilometers, including Gilgit-Baltistan, the Line of Control (LoC), and the international border.”

He stated that within 24 to 36 hours, both militaries enforced the ceasefire effectively. However, he stressed that true peace is not possible unless the Kashmir conflict is resolved. “We’ve seen several ceasefires over the past 78 years, but none have led to lasting peace due to the unresolved status of Kashmir,” he said.

He recalled that the United Nations recognized Kashmir as an international dispute in 1948. “Unless this issue is addressed, ceasefires will remain fragile,” he warned.

Lt. Gen. (R) Saeed rejected India’s claims of targeting terrorist camps. “India actually bombed mosques and civilian homes,” he said, adding that innocent women and children were martyred in those attacks.

He noted that Pakistan condemned the Pulwama incident and even offered cooperation if India shared evidence. “To this day, India hasn’t provided proof—neither to Pakistan nor to any international organization,” he said. “If an investigation is ongoing, where does international law allow launching attacks without conclusions?”

He also pointed to previous incidents like Pathankot, Uri, and Mumbai, saying India always uses them as excuses to blame Pakistan while rejecting transparent investigations.

“India’s narrative about targeting terror camps is false,” Lt. Gen. (R) Saeed reiterated. He invited RT reporters to visit the affected areas and witness the truth on the ground themselves.
